I was recently handed a lean book, endorsed by one of the well-know lean gurus. All good, standard stuff for the area. Then the author introduces his "new thing", which, in all modesty, he named after himself (and a kitchen utensil - just to keep the mystery, I suppose)
The named-after-him-and-a-kitchen-utensil technique turned out to be old stuff just warmed-up again and given a new name. His.
I don´t get it. None of the content is garbage, so why trash it with such cheap nonsense? I can´t see how it adds any value to the subject or his reputation. By contrast, it makes you question what he is really about.
Just by co-incidence, I met one of his former clients a few weeks ago. Suffice it to say that it didn´t look like this revolutionary gadget was having much effect. It most certainly wasn´t hitting the bottom line. Just like one of those all-singing, all dancing kitchen-helpers, it was back in the box and on the top shelf, gathering dust...
Its this sort of stuff that gives us consultants - and kitchen gadgets - a bad name!
